Inhale, Exhale, Inhale

The smells of
skunk spray and cigarette smoke
linger
in the thick curtain of rain

I cannot inhale for fear of distaste
     Avoid the bitterness
     Avoid my neighbours

I use my other senses to live
forgetting the necessity of breath
as the rain streams down harder
     my eyes capture the night
my ears are soothed by the rain
my mouth is cooled by the moisture
my skin tingles from the chilled air

I sit at my window and stare
at the passing specters
and urge time to pass faster
     and slower still

     and slower still

     And then it all
     stops
     before my eyes

I inhale

and tumble back into the
mess of a life that I have

and that midnight rain can never fix

Junk Heap

A pile of rusting junk
stretched mangled arms into the clear
blue sky

I feel sick
Although I can't see, I know
that twisted former things
reach for me

I squint into the dark depths of broken arms -
each thing is beyond recognition,
a mess of had been achievements

Clouds drift slowly by
with the spinning of the world

This pile sits and sags with time
before being ground up into something new
     just to lie here again

I shudder
And cross the street

Back Into Memory

And you have lapsed back into memory
and I into this Siren's Song

Into the core of you do you retreat
I watch you go
arms pinned to my side,
head at an alluring angle.
I see you watching me
taunting me to run after you
forbidding me to follow.

I set your ship upon the rocks

You scamper away from me
clumsily
It would be funny
     if I could laugh

I shipwrecked you here

You yell at me
Assure me that you don't blame me
grin malevolently
cackle with bitterness

And I break myself down

And you have lapsed back into memory
and I into this Siren's Song

Blindness

The rain falls not so hard when the sun shines
Each droplet blinds me anew
reflecting prisms of light on the way down.
Sitting on the ground, I see the end o f their journey.
The years they've been avoiding since the second
they saw the ground.
But when I look up, my eyes are blinded by water
I'm crying borrowed tears.
That there is no much death in revival
My clothes drag me down into the ether
weighted with lost stories.
The sun bursts forth with renewed vigor
Lost stories stay hidden in the clouds
As my eyes start to accustom to a happy blindness

"Trees For Sale"

Buy some nature
Buy it out of your window
     No don't
     Get it here

The ones in your yard?
     Fake
The ones here?
     Real
     (ignore the plastic)

It's small now
but they grow

Aren't you aware of a tree?

Well I guess not
'Cause you're buying one from me

They Cut All the Daffodils Down

The cut all the daffodils down,
chopped off their heads,
severed their grins....
Only yesterday I passed them on my busy way
while they were waiting
for execution.
     (They grinned back.)
And tomorrow I'll pass their fallen stems
again.

I miss their beaming blossoms.

Broken bodies of newly released prisoners,
heads taken away...
Away
To decorate some table

Jagged stems are my daffodils now
Flowers no more
My life becomes colourless

They cut all my daffodils down

I expect I'm next

Fading Fast

The light at the end of the tunnel is blurred
and fading fast.
Lights illuminate the tunnel as I pass through,
causing me to not notice that
my sunglasses are still over my eyes.
I look to the perceived end
and find that it has been
absorbed into the persistent
brightness of the dark.

There is no end
There is no reprieve
There is no darkness

and we're all scared.

Warm Rain

My frame is chilled through heavy fleece,
Skin prickling against the sun's feeble rays.
But it's bearable, this May chill.
My breath hugs the air
And I see the embrace before my eyes
And you see the same.
A shudder creeps up through my everything
But it's not the whispering wind or
blinding sun or soaking feet.
Pattering droplets remind me it's raining.
but your obstinance keeps the shudders at bay
And even in the approaching cloud
I'll stay right here
So you can keep me warm and dry

Stirring Air

Empty words fill empty cups to the brim.
As I watch, the fizz spills over shining edges,
fading into the tepid air.
Your words, my love, they spill fast,
faster than you could ever pour.

But not fast enough to stop my understanding.

Rosy red cakes tower between us.
I must look through them to see you
You look at them and don't see me.

I stare at my empty glass and empty plate
and all I can see is lies

     You promised to feed me

I dab my lips with my pristine napkin
and walk away,
leaving you grinning wildly at
poisoned cakes
and stirring air in a glass

No Stars in the Ceiling

My eyes close and the night fully envelopes my frame. The night I held at bay with tired smiles and suppressed giggles finally has won me over, nestled in foreign sheets. I close my eyes and welcome the silent night, my humble repose.
I wish the night was silent.
My thoughts are settling softly, slowly...

A train in the distance, its siren coaxes me to stay aware. The blare jolts my eyes back open ot a dark and unassuming ceiling.

It's not filled with stars.
It's white and empty, shrouded in shadows.

The train's whistle continues on its seemingly unending journey.

A screech of tires calls the attention of my ears to the window.
My eyes follow.

A laugh pierces the quiet.

I squirm to find  a comfortable position to drift to sleep in.
No matter where I thrash too, the sounds follow, hollowing out the quiet, ruining the darkness.

I wake up. My head aches with unrest.
The world has kept me from sleeping.
A constant reminder.

Sleep provides no reprieve.
There is no escape.
There are no stars in the ceiling.

I'd Give Me to You

And I'd give my life for you
I hope you know
I'd breathe my final breaths
so you could breathe a hundred more.
I'll bake you a tiny portions of my love so
you can have a good taste in your mouth
and, hopefully, on some level, know that
this is because
I love you

And I'll coach you through
your silences
a loving gaze, a helping hand...
And I'll guide the pen across the page,
lulling your thoughts to rest,
the method behind your madness
And all I can hope is that you'd
do the same for me.

Only I know that you won't.

Words fail when actions refuse to begin

My watch ticks on, reminding me
that you're late.

I'd die for you, I hope you know

But you don't.
You don't know me at all

A thousand voices attack from all sides
My watch ticks on.
Love, when words end, actions must begin

Sweet Dreams

It frightens me to sleep with words in my brain.
I'm scared they'll leave me when I leave this day.
They fit around my sanity,
toying with perceptions.
They dress themselves up and
lead extraordinary lives
for however long they want.
     I have no control
They taint me in my drowsiness
They caress my face
     Once upon a time
     no
     That's not right

my breath slows
my heart beats rhythmically

My words tuck me in and
change to conduct my dreams
It was the best of times
It was the worse of times

     Yes
     That's the right start

Make A Wish

The glow from the campfire lights up her face, creating contours never before imagined. He stares at the mysteries and at the flickering lights in her eyes. Watching only her eyes, he manages to enjoy the fire. Smouldering eyes. That's what his friends would say. He means it differently. He means that the fire is glowing and vibrant in her eyes.

The wood burns.

A sudden crackling of firewood and the light change. She jumps. They all giggle at her and she smiles softly, the glowing wood shadows hiding her eyes. He offers her a marshmallow and her smile widens .
They sit in silence, observing their golden marshmallows, mildly listening to the banter that is unravelling across the flame, but really, they're glancing through the half shadows at the other.

The wood crackles again.
A spark flies through the air. A shooting star.
Make a wish.

He turns to her and she to him.
They put down their marshmallows and walk away, arm and arm, into the night.

Their marshmallows burn.
No one notices

To Chaos

Snow from nowhere pastes itself to the car, clouding judgement, separating the inside from the darkness. Hollow lights drive at us from their unique origins. They illuminate the snow as it falls in its mad decent, sped up by the sheer speed of us. Vague outlines of trees stand guard of the darkness.
A twinkle catches my groggy eyes: A galaxy of stars taken from space and into a B.C valley. The town is surrounded by darkness and disappears with each left we take.

It has stopped snowing.
Too much snow was caught in the dismal beam of headlights.
We're descending into the galaxy.
It's the first time we've encountered civilization in hours.
And I feel so far removed.
We take a series of rights, and the lights stay behind us.
This moment, this feeling was written for me over a century before: I'm heading into the heart of an immense darkness.
The windows fog again and even the dim glow of the headlights becomes unclear.

I sit here in this darkness with only my words and my thoughts of you, the Beatles' humming gently in my ear, tempting me away from the edge of a bad idea.

Penny White

Penny White stares into space during math class, caught up in the clouds and goodness of spring. SHe dashes to history, and she fawns over William Blake in her literature class. She laughs with her friends at lunch and gets into a mood after a long day. She spends time with her family before doing her homework when she gets home. She enjoys spending time with her cat and with her books - she loses herself in them.

And I know I've gotten this wrong.
And I know I'm writing about me.
But what's so different about us anyways?

I can't tell if she's real.
And she doesn't know I exist.

Pictures

The world is entirely too concerned
with pictures.
     [SAY CHEESE!]
     (Ahh... That's a bad one!)
     {Take another! I look fat!}

A day an a half exists no more
     because of a disfunction
     (it wasn't the camera...)
The art is forgotten in the nostalgia.

My life wishes to be measured in
coffee spoons again
     When simple talk
     made the memories

     which made a life
     that made me

Quiet

Today is a lovely day in Vancouver.
The birds are chirping
     (or so I see)
The leaves are rustling in a soft breeze
     (is that what I feel?)
The world glistens
(I know this to be true)

With music blaring,
I bounce along, ignoring you and the rest of the world
To the personal rhythm in my mind
I feel the day.

We have lost the ability to live.
     I no longer feel.
     I only know

This influx of emotions is
overwhelming

short
stilted
sentences
incomplete....
Oh i'm confused

All you need is love, love... Love is all you need

I plug back in.
And the world goes quiet.

My problems are soft
    They fill my head
     And I think

But soon, I no longer do that

Gate

To be hated from all sides
but loved by the man beside you.
To represent a wall
     A face in the concrete
An arm reaching out to stop
A fate in the barrier
The expect me to be human
     I am a wall

They can't escape through me
I reserve that for myself.

Excuse me sir
     Sir
The wire is there for a reason.
      To keep you filth out

Were defending out identity
And splitting it al one

Quick, no one's looking.
Slip a key into my lock.

It softly clicks
     A thunderclap in the mountains.

Leave the door ajar.
And flee

A Trojan Queen

A queen watches a battle from a raised platform to protect her life. The old king sits beside her, watching his sons, as much worry as his queen felt for him.
The queen doesn't feel protected.
She sees more fighting, hears more screams than the soldiers on the battlefield. The battle rages on and the sun beats down. He brow worsens. Why must she watch? She's supposed to be innocent and lovely.
She's tainted by war.

Onwards and Away

And the slightest breath of wind
curls around the leaf,
nestling it in unsupportive coldness,
sending it up and North,
a ballerina, twirling out of control
     and dropping-
     a career ended.
The leaf lies inanimate once more
just staring at the cloud as they too
are moved onwards and
     away.

To a Place

Meandering with no direction and
no cause for alarm,
street lights extinguishing as we pass by

And still we walk.

And still we joke and kid
as the night closes in

The Cold holds my hand under my glove
while shared experience
envelopes the entire form.

We meander from place to place,
wandering with no real direction.
     We'll get there eventually.
     Land has to end somewhere

A fire in the distance seems too far away,
tempts us with it's wicked smoke

Let us wander, you and I
To a place beyond matter

The Kite

Today is the day he’d always hoped would come. He hadn’t been able to put a name to it for all of his seven years, but he just knew. This is where he would begin. The park is beautiful the day the boy and his dad carry the hand-me-down kite to the open field. The sun shines mercilessly, but in a comforting sort of way. His dad walks beside him slowly and confidently while the boy bounds all around the park.
He was about to begin.
He just knew it.

Across the park, a lone man watches the dad and son with sadness. The boy looks so happy, and the dad so proud. The man looks down at the kite in his own hands and sighs, his body collapsing with the sheer effort of living. A shiver runs down his spine despite the comforting warmth of the day. He glares at the shade encompassing him.
This was the day to end all his days, all his pain.
He was about to succumb.
He just knew it.

Grasping his kite, the dad smiles down at his son. His smile wavers ever so slightly. He knows that he’s waited too long to give his son this chance, but it was a necessary wait. The kid needed to grow up a bit, know that being a child wasn’t given liberally. It needed to be earned.
Never mind his reasons. Today was the day. And it couldn’t be more important.
He solidifies his smile. It matches the sun.

Why does he hesitate? The man is confused at his own gasps for air. How futile they are.
Tie the knot just like daddy taught. Tie the knot good and tight. This can’t fail. This can’t be added to the list his daddy has.

The dad preps the string, his boy for the event. Tie the string to the kite good and tight (can’t let it get away); give the roll to the kid. He goes through his checklist methodically, just like his father taught him. He often tries to forget this fact. But it’s still there, and so it will always be.
“Are you ready m’boy?” he whispers to his jumpy son.
The boy nods and grins, settling down into his practiced stance. It was finally happening. Him, and his dad, and the kite. And only at age seven! How could life get any better? He took five deep breaths like his dad told him to. Five deep luscious breaths. The warm spring day filled his lungs and created a new body for him to occupy.
He’s no longer the same.
He is ready.

The man looks out from the trees one last time. He scowls at the dad and his boy with their kite. Damn them all to hell, he thinks miserably.
Slowly he breathes in and out, enjoying the feeling. He might as well leave being happy.
A bang, rather than a whimper.
He knows he’s only a whimper. He knows this and checks his knots more carefully still. Can’t let himself down now. Limb by limb, he finds his way into the selected tree. The tree that housed his childhood when nothing else went right. His escape tree. How fitting.
From here, he can see his house as well as the rest of the world. His world. Not his alone, he has to remind himself. That was always an argument. Now he’s getting mad. Five more breaths. Five more. He needs to be calm.
Tracing the old lines of the tree, he knows that it’s time.
He has never changed, always been the same person.
He is ready.

The dad looks at his boy reassuringly, face partially obscured by the kite. He breathes in sharply and the delicate fabric of the kite trembles. He calls out to his son, refocusing them both. The boy concentrates all his thoughts on the kite string in his hand.
“Ready Dad!” he shouts out over the faint breeze. His heart is beating furiously with anticipation.
“On the count of three...” the dad responds.
“ONE!” Get ready.
“TWO!” Get set.
“THREE!” Blast off.

The man checks his own kite string, repositions the kite, places the string about his neck, checks on the father and son in the field. All systems go.
He thanks the tree for the memories, the kite for its use, and his saviour for the life he has lived, reassuring himself that forty-seven is a perfect age to die. He’s already left a note at his mother’s place. These announcements are just superfluous. He looks to the ground.
One. Get ready.
Two. Get set.
Three. Goodbye.

The dad releases the kite and the boy releases all his fantasies about racecars and rocket ships and submarines and hot air balloons and jet planes and kites. He screams as he runs, voice drowned out by the wind racing through his hair and jacket. The kite lifts off and soars above his head. He thinks about stopping only briefly – the kite is flying so high and he’s so free. He can’t stop now! He continues his run towards the trees where the man had been. The dad smiles at the boy’s retreating form. The lesson has been taught. He sits down on the lawn chair he’s brought and opens a soda, melting into the sunshine and releasing himself to memory.

The man feels himself fall. He feels the string slice into his trachea. The sun pushes away the shade, lands on his kite. He smiles.
He feels nothing more.

The boy stops just before the trees to admire his kite. The kite trembles on the ever-increasing breeze while its thin fabric glistens in the sun. The colours shine down onto his smile, tinting his cheeks with green and gold. He’s overcome with just how perfect this feeling is. He’s playing tug-o-war against the wind, his hands on the ball of string, the wind’s grasp on the kite. The boy glances back at his dad and is surprised: his dad has never sat down and succumbed to memory before. Then again, this is the first outing of the kite. He quickly waves at his dad (who waves back absentmindedly, preoccupied with thoughts of fishing trips) and redirects his attentions to the kite.

The forest is quiet. A man hangs motionless from a tree, his blood still warm.
A smile has been frozen onto his face.

The boy has lost himself into thoughts of greatness. He concentrates the battle he is fighting with the wind for the kite. He softly whistles “Let’s Go Fly a Kite”, a tune he picked up from somewhere he doesn’t know.
He dreams of what he’s going to do with his life.
He imagines palaces and money, horses and cars, rooms of his many houses devoted to kites. He sees himself flying in the sky like a kite. A kite assisted by machine. A human tethered to earth, never entirely free.
The dad is not aware of these thoughts. He’s remembering his own dreams. He sees the kite float lazily in the sky, a newspaper heading about a war.

The man sees nothing of this. His memories have been buried. His last smile is directed towards paradise, leaving on a run away kite- the ball of string has been let go.

Suddenly, the wind attacks with force, catching the boy off guard. The kite wavers and drops uncontrollably. The boy's cry is muffled by the sound of the wind in his coat. In his surprise, he dropped the ball of string.
Before running into the forest, he glances at his dad. Luckily, the accident was not seen. The boy sighs with relief and darts into the forest, following the roll of string. He feels like Hansel and Gretel, trying to find their trail of breadcrumbs to go home. Where is he going? Where is his kite?

Turning left, he sees a thread hanging from a branch. He lets out another sigh of relief, thankful that no witches with houses of candy appeared in between the trees. As he nears the thread, something seems wrong, but he can't tell. It seems like an older material, one that he can't name, one from the era before his kite. The tree it landed in is old and gnarled, evidence of a tree fort still visible. The boy ignores it and hurries to the tree. A tip of a kite peeks out through the leaves, but the boy does not see this.

The boy stops in confusion. This isn't his kite. This kite is different. This kite has stopped a man from falling.
“Excuse me... Sir?” the boy whispers.
He's answered by a smile. One that hasn't faded. Rigor is setting in.
The man's neck is mangled, the boy can see that. His feet dangle and his hands move according to the breeze. The eyes are open, the mouth smiles... The man looks happy. Why is he hanging from a tree? Why is his kite supporting him? Did the kite do it?
All the boy can do is look. He doesn't see what's wrong. He sees a man and a kite in a tree. He stares at Death and doesn't see.

Looking away from his reveries, the dad tries to find his boy. The field is empty. His heart is throbbing. He scrambles out of his chair, spilling his soda in the process.
Where to start looking? He scans the top of the trees for the hint of gold to tell him where to find his son. There it is, to his left. He sprints into the woods, slowing enough to avoid hitting trees. He sees a thread, hopes to find a boy.
The boy hears his father's footsteps thudding on the forest floor and calls out. He goes back to staring at the man, imprinting the image in his mind.
The man's kite is purple with red tigers.

The father sees the green and gold kite hanging from a tree, unharmed, the string still wound nicely into a ball. He carefully listens for a small voice. He hears it... More to his right. Scooping up the kite, he walks carefuly towards the sound of the boy's voice.

There he is. Crisis averted. He's standing in front of a tree, with some other poor boy's kite. It is reminicent to the designs he used to see. He smiles and goes to embrace his son. Just before reaching the boy, he sees why the boy has been so still, so attentive. There's a man in the tree. A man who has lost his way.
He drops the kite.

“Dad... Why is the man hanging in the tree? Why is he smiling like that? Can I have tigers on my kite too?” the boy asks.
His dad puts his arms around the boy, picks up the kite and leads them all away.
“I'll tell you later pal. You don't need to know just yet.”
The boy accepts this answer and takes the kite from his dad.
“I'll see you back in the field daddy!” the boy calls as he races off.
His dad nods slowly.

The rays of sun seem kinder and the day brighter back out in the field. The dad gazes back into the forest and the secrets it holds before jogging to help out his son.
Carpe Diem. Seize the day.

17 February

Today is a rainy day
and I'm tired. Tired of it all.
Tired of the mud, the yells...
The petty rules determining this life.
My eyes droop, blocking words
from entering my skull.
     (Or exiting.)

The weak light from outdoors
makes the floors shine
    (Or is that the fluorescents?
    It's hard to tell).
I look at the trophy case: 20 trophies
with emblazoned forgotten names look back,
vigilantly protecting a cause I do not know.

The pictures of the past glare at me to be in class.

I can't.
I just... Can't.

I'll sit here
on the border of the weak and fluorescent light,
curl into myself like a turtle,
become a forgotten about name
behind a wall of glass.

stops

How can there ever be a shortage?!
     (Thinks one
     Thinks many)
It'll never go away
For as long as I live.
     (Think the young
     Think the old)
It's wondrous and large...
     It's mine.
         (Think them all)

Flake by flake, the snow blackens
Tree by tree, the leaves weaken
Country by country, the initiative

     stops

A Glimpse

A glimpse back to the past
in the form of a letter.
A paid fare back into time
     Keep ticking forward
Oh how times have changed.
How trivial it all seems.
     How important
     For its time.
There's something about moving away
that doesn't need boxes.
It needs a good-bye
     It's final.
No matter what, the old times
     have died.
Yellowing envelopes with forgotten destinations
hold ramblings of yesteryear
     A bit of me
     I had let go.

The Straw is Itchy

Using as little words as possible, we were to put the reader into a specific moment from our childhoods. This one still bothers my sister.

Under my hands, the straw itches. It itches under my pants too, making crawling difficult. A strand moves up my too small jeans. I want to itch it but then I'll lose my cousins and the people behind me'll catch up and the halloween pop ups will eat me. Round the corner, more lights. Glow sticks. Illuminating a Dracula surrounded by pumpkins. I crash into the straw wall, sending more down to make me itchy. Then he speaks. He speaks in his automated Dracula voice. He laughs at me. I don't laugh back. I can't breathe will all this straw. The tunnel is so small and dark. Minus the glow sticks. A green one bobs in front or me. SARAH! I start crawling again and the straw keeps on itching. I'm so cramped. Why isn't this ending?! My windbreaker scrapes against the straw wall as I swerve around. What's that noise? Dracula? There's no one around. I take a deep straw filled breath and turn the next corner in pursuit of a fluorescent green blob.

Was She Either?

The moon is full tonight. He could tell because of its reflection in the small perfect lakes of her eyes. He could also see it in the precise angle of her chin that she held aloft, not letting it reattach to her neck like she often does while sleeping. The serenity of the night around her was portrayed through her fingertips, softly playing with the grass under her relaxed frame. She gazed at the pre-dawn sky and he could see all the thoughts race around her head like the million shooing stars he has never seen. The way her toes tickle each other, seemingly separate bodies from their united being of her...
The moon was full and the night was ending just as soon as it started. The million stars and thoughts became less than brilliant and he saw the frown spread across her luscious face, charcoal lines in the sand. He wanted to touche her, keep her in this safe place of dreams and calm.
But he couldn't. He wasn't quite real.
But was she either?

Wait Another Day

At the corner of forever and today I wait.
Wait for the eternal stoplight to change.
The wait is enjoyable
The hesitation comes of deciding which way to turn.

I'll just wait for the next one.

It switches back and I'm still standing
Anxiety fades, turns a different corner.

Looking left towards forever, it stretches into
my hopes and dreams.

An ice cream vendor is offering vanilla swirls.

To my right, today looks frightening.
The ice cream is offered further down
the street, closer to the next corner.

I close my eyes

     Inhale.

     Exhale.

Turn right.

Forever will wait another day.
     I've already been waiting.
     It can wait some more.

Gumballs

A thousand coloured gumballs crammed into a
tiny space.
A thousand perfect spheres behind the glass
beyond my reach.
Sure the price is simple
(a nickel here, a quarter there,
blue tinted tongue on Monday, red on Wednesday)
But I don't want to pay for the destruction of their beauty.
I want them to remain perfect, complete,
thrilling all who look at them.

(They don't taste that great either)

A thousand perfectly tinted gumballs
concealing their disappointment so
those who only look are satisfied.

History, as inspired by B. Wilson

"No one likes history.
It's so old"
Mistakes of the past belong in
Battered forgotten textbooks
     life needs no instructing
It is cyclical. It is preset.
What happened then is happening
     now
It's so old
But it's no longer history

Deafening

A room is filled with silence.
I am pressed against the air
     With no chance of escape
The air is heavy and slow, weighing down...
My arm extends (slowly) to grasp at
An object I cannot see
Due to the sheer density in the room
Lethargically, I blink in order to
Stay awake.

The silence is deafening.

I cannot hear.

Is that why it's silent? Ears clogged
With nothing?

I'm losing the battle against the air
So much for peace and quiet

Scavenger Hunt Assignment

panic stalking yeards behing
couldn't catch
and I explore a twitch, a tree
now choked on my own habitual route.
eye on the drought,
she signs with the lion
sounds short, palms bared, foraging sensitivity.
My special one snorts and gave up

Drowning at Breakfast

A little something using the words ocean, empire state building, oatmeal, and X box.

My bowl of oatmeal stretches on and on during the course of this taxing breakfast, taking the exact same direction of the last twelve meals. I don't want to be here. Neither does my watery oatmeal. It's an ocean. And I'm drowning.
No, I don't feel like going to the Empire State Building. We did that yesterday. (Of course you forgot. Were you even there?)
Yes I like my X box you got me. (Surprised? I'm sure. I mean, since when do I like you.)
The voice drones on and on and passes over my head. I'm not listening. I'm just staring at my oatmeal. And it's staring back. His voice is pushing my head closer and closer to the bowl. I'm going to drown. I don't think he cares. But does it matter?

Keep the Lantern Prime

If I were a lighthouse I would
bring you home.
I would search miles of empt sea
just to spot you the
moment you return.
My yellow gaze
would pierce through layer upon
layer of foggy night as a makeshift sun for you to follow.
And through the haze of
each and every day I would
weep lighthouse tears and keep
the lantern prime for when
the night falls.

And I'll still be waiting for you.
Stoically standing guard, helping
others land safely,  but all the while
waiting for you.
